Core Values
We believe that any church should be able
to answer the question: "If I became faithfully involved
in your church, at the end of five years how would I be
different? What would I be like?" Since our Mission
here at First Pres is to "build a family of authentic
disciples of Jesus Christ," we take seriously the challenge
to spell out what an "authentic disciple" looks
like. Our church's five Core Values offer a snapshot of
an "authentic disciple." These are the values
we hope all who join our community are growing in and towards:
Centered in
Christ
We desire Jesus to be Lord of every part of our lives.
Our family lives embody biblical priorities and Godly
wisdom. We act as stewards of all that God has placed
into our care--holding it lightly and sharing sacrificially
with others. |

Empowered by
the Spirit
We desire prayer at the heart of all we do, so the power
of God's Spirit may free, fill, and function through
us. We maintain a vital relationship with God through
an active life of prayer and other spiritual disciplines.
We are obedient when the Spirit "nudges us"
into action. We have discovered our unique spiritual
gifts and are feeling fulfilled and fruitful using them
for God's kingdom. |
Growing Through
Relationships
We want everyone to experience deeper connections with
God and others in a relational small group. We are experiencing
a "one another" lifestyle with some Christian
brothers and sisters with whom we can be vulnerable
and honest. |

Sharing the
Good News
We are commissioned to passionately communicate God's
saving love by word and action with Visalia and the
world. We look for opportunities to simply and naturally
tell others how Jesus Christ has made a supreme difference
in our lives. |
Building On
Scripture
We live under the authority of the Bible, and value
our Presbyterian spiritual heritage. We know the basic
themes of the Christian scriptures, and are growing
confident to apply biblical principles to the issues
of modern daily life. |
