Dr. Stephen A. Murray, Senior Pastor
He received his doctorate from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago and his Master of Divinity from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. He previously served Presbyterian churches in Stillman Valley, Illinois, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Ames, Iowa, Arlington, Texas, and Thomasville, Georgia.
Pastor Murray's ministry has been marked by a desire for the renewal and growth of the mainline churches. Dr. Murray's interests include Reformation history, poetry, Russian literature, C.S. Lewis and the Inklings, sports, and music.
Rev. Murray is married to Diane. She is a reader, a cook, a gardener, a sewer, and loves being outdoors. She enjoys making a home feel like home. She is committed to personal as well as group Bible study. She has taught Sunday School for 3 year olds on up through adults. Diane was born and raised on Staten Island in New York City. She enjoys a good conversation, but preferably over a cup of coffee.
The Murrays have three children. Daniel graduated from Northwestern University Law School in Chicago and is an attorney in Dallas, Texas. Peter graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, and now lives in Magnolia, Texas where he is area manager for Cengage Learning. He and wife Breanna have two children: Finn and Lincoln. Ellen graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington, and is now in a PhD program at Georgia State University in Atlanta. Her husband Drew is the Associate Pastor at Morningside Presbyterian Church.
Matt Ponce, Youth & Praise Team Leader
Matt Ponce has been involved in Youth Ministry for seven years, specializing in small groups and worship.
He enjoys writing music, reading, and spending time with his two chilcren, Violet and Levi. Matt has been with the First Pres family for two years - and looks forward to many more!
Heather Krane, Director of Music Ministry
Heather Krane received her Master’s of Music from Boston University, and her Bachelor’s of Music from Biola University. Heather is a trained classical soprano and has most recently performed with the Fresno Master Chorale, Tulare County Symphony, Visalia Opera Company, Kings Symphony, and as a Young Artist with Opera San Luis Obispo.
She is an active member of With Strings Attached, a chamber group in residence at First Presbyterian Church Visalia. Heather and her husband Josh live in Hanford with their son Burton and are expecting a baby girl this September.
