Teaching the Faith
The apostle Paul says that we are to proclaim Jesus Christ, "admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ." (Colossians 1:28)
At First Pres that is our goal as we teach the faith -- we want everyone to grow into maturity in their relationship with Jesus. To make this happen, there is Sunday School for children every Sunday morning during the 9:00 worship service. Adult Sunday School meets at 10:30.
First Pres describes itself as "a relationship-centered church." One major way this happens is through Small Groups. They study Scripture, read other helpful Christian literature, and during some seasons of the church year, their study is coordinated with Sunday sermons.
These groups meet in homes throughout the city. One of the very best ways to grow as a Christain is to share a study of God's Word with others who are seeking to more fully be faithful followers of Jesus Christ.

Caring for One Another
The apostle Paul says that as believers in Christ, we rejoice with those who rejoice, and we mourn with those who mourn. (Romans 12:15) At First Pres, we do that in many ways, but one major way is through the ministry of the Deacons. Everyone who is part of the First Pres family is placed in a Parish Group.
Each Deacon has oversight of a Parish Group to make sure that if anyone in the group has a need, fellow members of the Parish Group help meet that need. (If a particular member with a need is active in some area of church life, and people in that area want to meet the need, that's good too. The Deacons simply ensure that in some way a particular need is met.) The needs involve everything from taking in meals when someone is sick, hospital visits, financial aid, and prayer.

This is a monthly gathering of older members of the congregation. They meet for a Wednesday lunch on the church campus, followed by a variety of interesting programs and guest speakers. Prime Timers is a great way to visit with treasured friends, enjoy good food, and hear inspiring speakers.

Prayer Partners is a ministry dedicated to bringing requests and praises before the Lord in prayer. It is both a Sunday ministry and a daily ministry. Prayer partners meet Sundays before church to pray in the sanctuary, 210, and Children's Education wing. We pray briefly before the 9:00 service with the pastor and during each service for those participating and for prayer requests from people attending each service. Each prayer partner prays one Sunday each month during one service. Using a daily prayer calendar, we also pray for staff, special services, missions and other events in the life of the church.
